Mellow Mushroom is finally open!

We have been stalking the Providence area anxiously awaiting the Mellow Mushroom and at long last, it is finally open! If you haven’t heard of or been to a Mellow Mushroom, well, you must not be from around here. A staple in college towns, especially Auburn and Tuscaloosa, MM has some of the best pizza I have ever encountered. They use the freshest ingredients and your inner vegan will be most pleased with the plethora of vegetarian options. They also have a lot of beers on tap and hopefully, with the recent passing of the Gourmet Beer Bill (yay!), they will have even more very soon (Sweetwater please!). There is a patio and with the new park area next door, I’m looking forward to listening to some local musicians in a great setting. MM – Thumbs up!

I can't even review the quality of the food. When I went to Mellow Mushroom I was excited because I had heard such great things. Unfortunately they refused to seat us for 30-45 minutes even though there were at least a dozen open tables. The reason given was the kitchen was backed up and if we were seated immediately we would have waited at least 2 hours for our food. First of all, this just indicates bad planning on the part of whomever designed the restaurant - either the kitchen is too small or the dining area too large. Second, what am I supposed to do for 30-45 minutes? Why not seat me so I can at least have a drink and just explain the wait for the food? There was no sympathy or apology offered, and we were very frustrated at the lack of service or opportunity to eat on what shouldn't have been a busy night or time. I could have driven to the one in Anniston or Chatanooga and eaten in the same amount of time as they estimated. I will not be returning to even attempt to eat at this particular location
