System trustees meet to consider Mike Griffin as eminent scholar

Former NASA Administrator Mike Griffin could be hired today as a tenured professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

A University of Alabama Board of Trustees committee was expected to meet today to consider Griffin’s appointment as an eminent scholar and professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

Griffin was NASA administrator from April 2005 until January.

Griffin’s hiring is the only item on the special compensation committee’s 10 a.m. meeting agenda today. The committee will take information by phone and not meet in person. According to University of Alabama Board of Trustee policies, Griffin could be hired today if the committee agrees.
