May 26 primary for seat vacatedby Sue Schmitz

MONTGOMERY – Gov. Bob Riley on Friday announced the special election schedule for Alabama House District 6, the legislative seat vacated by the Feb. 24 felony conviction of Rep. Sue Schmitz of Toney.

The deadline for candidates to qualify with the Democratic and Republican parties will be April 2 and the party primaries will be May 26.

If a runoff is needed, it would be July 14 and the general election would be Sept. 1. If no runoff is necessary, the general election will be July 14.

Riley said his office has sent the schedule to the Democratic and Republican parties and Madison County Probate Judge Tommy Ragland.
