Republican tells the reasons for his gifts to Democrats

Despite $9,200 in campaign contributions made in his name for Democratic candidates and causes, Republican state Senate candidate Sam Givhan asserts he has no liberal leanings.

Givhan is a real-estate attorney who is facing barbecue restaurant owner Paul Sanford in the April 21 Republican runoff in the District 7 state Senate special election. He said he’s being criticized in the Internet blogosphere and on talk radio about donations made to Democratic candidates between 1998 and 2004.
