Huntsville’s New Mayor
Challenger Tommy Battle handed Huntsville Mayor Loretta Spencer a decisive defeat Tuesday, never dropping below a 53-47 percentage point lead in a race decided on a rainy day during fall school break.
With 54 of 55 precincts reporting, Battle had 21,123 votes or 56 percent to 16,821 or 44 percent for Spencer. That was actually a widening of the spread as the late boxes came in. The 54 precincts represented the final, unofficial total. One box is reserved for provisional votes.
